Sunday Youtube Post - Chilling The Fuck Out Edition

I'm very grateful that I've been able to find such great drawing/reading/sleep music. There's really nothing quite like it. I realize a couple of these are like ten minutes each, but trust me, they're worth watching completely. I wanted to post more, but this page is cluttered up with youtube videos as it is. Just grab some ice cream and relax.

I've been trying really hard to wrap my head around the way conservatives think. Having witnessed an insane amount of internet conversations between conservatives and liberals, and having lived with a neocon dad for most of my life, I feel comfortable in saying I have a fairly good grasp. The difficult part will be typing it all out coherently, because these fuckers are loving insane.

I'm going to use the word "conservative" a lot. Just to clarify, I'm not talking about the old school intelligent conservatives like Eisenhower, I'm talking about anybody who still calls himself a Republican in 2010. Let me get it out of the way now that both conservatives and liberals can fall into these things. But in the current political climate, not only do you see these a helluva lot more among Republicans, they almost seem required in order to be one.

1) Conservative morality is black and white.

I have never met a single strong conservative in my life who doesn't look at the world in this way. The world is divided into good and evil. There is no in between. If you're not with us, you're against us. Republicans are the good guys, and "they" are evil. "They" could be anyone conservatives want them to be.

Terrorists are evil motherfuckers. So are Nazis. Communists as well. Oftentimes, the line between "enemy" and "someone who disagrees with me" becomes blurred for these people. Progressives are evil. Democrats are evil. Liberals are evil. Look at Joseph McCarthy or Glenn Beck -- Liberals are enemies. So are communists. Therefore: liberals are communists.

This "extreme-good / extreme-evil" mentality breeds contempt towards anybody who doesn't think like they do. They are on the side of good and righteousness; how could anyone possibly disagree with good? Easy: liberals are either evil, or they are simply brainwashed by evil people (i.e., "the liberal media," or "Obama zombies," or "drinking the kool-aid," or "a college education").

2) Conservatives like stereotypes.

Racism, homophobia, and sexism could easily be mentioned. But since a liberal could also be any one of these things, I'll only focus on the way conservatives generally view liberals politically. From what I've seen, there are three liberal stereotypes among conservatives: 1) The hopelessly idealistic 60s hippie, placing flowers in the barrels of guns and dancing around naked and tripping on LSD, 2) the egghead elites, sippin' on their wine coolers, casually laughing at the peons beneath their feet, or 3) the violent radical loudmouths, spouting communist slogans, leading violent anti-government rallies, and preaching violent revolution. Or, the three stereotypes overlap, which is exactly how Barack Obama has been painted by the conservative media.

And conservatives, like Glenn Beck for example, love reinforcing these. Here, Beck demonstrates that all liberals are the same (and by "all liberals," I really mean the four or five dumbest stoners they could find). The first guy is so obviously an actor, that it's painful to watch. Beck's probably just jealous because he never went to college.

LIBERALS ARE SO DUM BUY MY BOOK LOL

3) Conservatives think like children.

Conservatives literally think like children do. Something happened to them when they were younger that prevented their intellectual thinking from maturing. The previous two points should make this obvious, but let me elaborate.

Conservatives seem to be obsessed with following a single father figure. In the 90s, it was Rush Limbaugh. The last decade, it was George W. Bush. Now it's shaping up to be Glenn Beck. And above everyone, there's that all-encompassing Ronald Reagan. They think as a hivemind. If you don't conform and follow this person unquestionably, the group will happily call you names. In fact, they really seem to like namecalling.

They also really love hypocrisy:

  • Rush Limbaugh believes drug users “ought to be accused and they ought to be convicted and they ought to be sent up," and yet in 2003, he admitted to being addicted to prescription painkillers.
  • Conservatives are obsessed with the sanctity of marriage, and yet conservative voices like Rush Limbaugh, Larry Craig, Mark Foley, Newt Gingrich, John Ensign, Ted Haggard, or Mark Sanford don't really seem to care about getting divorced numerous times, cheating on their wives, or having sex with men. They're the party of family values.
  • Conservatives seem to complain all the time about bias in "the mainstream media," and then they don't give a shit that Fox News is heavily biased. And Fox being the #1 news channel in the country makes it the mainstream media.
  • They criticize Barack Obama for being some sort of "celebrity" who liberals follow unquestionably (which they don't), when they fail to realize that the people they listen to the most don't hold any public office at at all, but are celebrities from the radio and TV, like Beck, Limbaugh, Hannity, O'Reilly, or Palin.
Watch this, it really drives the point home.

4) Conservatives believe the end always justifies the means.

This really needs no explanation. Republicans take things way too far, way too often.

Politics is a game to them. Win the game at all costs. "The enemy" is just as evil, so hell, why not?

5) Conservatives are terrified of everything.

This right here is where it all comes to fruition. Conservatives are so militant against gay marriage because they're subconsciously insecure about their own sexuality. Conservatives don't care about the destruction of personal liberties when combating terrorism because no cost is too great so long as they can feel safe.

Conspiracy theories are becoming very common, even among those in the mainstream. Conspiracy theories are brought on by fear. If they don't understand something (liberal thinking), it frightens them, and so their minds make things up to give them explanation. This is seen in the tea baggers, where belief that Barack Obama is a secret Muslim, a secret Kenyan, a secret terrorist, a secret communist, or a secret Nazi, all run rampant. Then people die. And the lies continue.

Glenn Beck is significantly responsible for much of the fear. Beck never came into the picture until Barack Obama became president, and once Barack Obama became president, this conspiracy hysteria exploded.

Beck has stated that his biggest political influence is Cleon Skousen, an anti-communist conspiracy theorist during the Cold War, who's a written wide variety of books, the topics ranging from the coming New World Order, to Mormonism. Beck has said Skousen's words are "divinely inspired."

CPAC

I read a study recently (can't find it again, sorry) that said people who don't pay attention to the news at all are just as informed in world events as people who only use 24 hour news channels as their single news source. Fox's viewers are some of the least informed. I'm going to blame this on Fox's tendency to tell its audience that no other news source can be trusted because they're all liberals. And thus, this single source gains a monopoly on the minds and ideas of its audience. When someone is open to more than one source, ideas and opinions thrive, and so does overall knowledge of a topic.

When all that conservative misinformation and propaganda gathers into one place, you get CPAC -- the Conservative Political Action Conference. It's almost like an anime convention, but for racists, homophobes, and opportunistic charlatans.

You got your racism:
Can we save our generation from Obama zombies, he asked. He answered himself by borrowing the president’s campaign slogan: "Yes, my brothahs and sistahs. Yes we can!"
You got your homophobia. I'm so glad (and honestly surprised) that this guy was heckled, but then again, this audience was young and college-aged. I hope Meaghan McCain isn't a fluke, and a lot of the younger republicans nowadays really are becoming more moderate. It's too bad they don't know they're actually liberals.

It's a pretty compelling argument:

"If something isn't natural, then it's bad; that's why I oppose art, education, medicine, and the refrigeration of food. I know what "natural" is and you don't, because only I have the authority to define it. But so I don't seem like an arrogant prick by saying that, I'm going to project my opinions onto "natural law," but I really mean God. God's saying these things, not me! I don't understand why you're all getting so mad at me, I'm only a tool of God's will! I am a tool!"

If it didn't make me so furious, I would've laughed at that lady repeating "freedom of opinion" after he had finished. Racists and sexists have a freedom of opinion too, but that doesn't mean they're not revolting sacks of shit who should be tolerated in any way. I hope he dies alone, and since this aired on national television, I'm sure he will.

Here's some more of this guy's crazy antics. He threatens an openly gay conservative with violence when he starts to lose an argument, and then calls him "intrinsically evil" to his face. The most disturbing thing of all is that he's able to convince himself he's on the right side.

And of course, who can forget our favorite manipulative jackass? In his speech at CPAC, Glenn Beck
  • Calls progressivism a "cancer" that was "designed to eat the Constitution."
  • Claims there's no difference between progressives and communists.
  • Bashes, of all people, Theodore Roosevelt. You know, one of the greatest presidents in history? He started the progressive cancer!
  • Basically argues in favor of political and cultural genocide. Progressivism must be "cut out of the system. [. . .] You must eradicate it. It cannot coexist."
He somehow manages to cram this all into this short 8 minute segment. You can watch all of this insanity its own context if you really want to. This went on for an hour. I don't want to seek out the rest.

The John Birch Society was a sponsor of CPAC this year. Back when the Cold War was in full swing, its founder Robert Welch called President Dwight D. Eisenhower a “conscious, dedicated agent of the communist conspiracy.” Yeah, that same Dwight D. Eisenhower who whooped Nazi ass in World War II and basically saved the world. Welch also said that the U.S. government was “under operational control of the Communist party.” On its website, the Birch Society describes its mission as to
“warn against and expose the forces that seek to abolish U.S. independence, build a world government, or otherwise undermine our personal liberties and national independence. The John Birch Society endorses the U.S. Constitution as the foundation of our national government, and works toward educating and activating Americans to abide by the original intent of the Founding Fathers. We seek to awaken a sleeping and apathetic people concerning the designs of those who are working to destroy our constitutional Republic.”
I really hate people who pretend in their own little way that they're above partisan dick-waving by saying that there are just as many crazy people on the left. Perhaps there are, but not a single one of them is mainstream. You never heard about any "truther" groups (who say George Bush was behind 9/11) sponsoring the Democratic National Convention. This is really insane shit, and it is mainstream. These people believe Barack Obama, liberals, progressives, and basically anyone who isn't a Republican, is actively attempting to "destroy our constitutional Republic." They literally think the president is trying to destroy the very the country he leads. And Republicans are taking their money.

This just in: Sarah Palin is huuuuurffffobghriphzpinzjkf

I'm mad that this dumb cunt is suddenly in the news again, but she is and there's nothing we can do about it, so here you go.

At about :47 seconds, you can catch Sarah glancing down at the notes she wrote on her hand, but you already know about that, and if not just google it, she's a hypocrite obama teleprompter hurf durf durf maverick. I want to talk about what she actually said.
"And then I think kind of tougher to, kind of tougher to put our arms around but, allowing America’s spirit to rise again by not being afraid, not being afraid to kind of go back to some of our roots as a god fearing nation where we’re not afraid to say, especially in times of potential trouble in the future here, we’re not afraid to say, you know, we don’t have all the answers as fallible men and women so it would be wise of us to start seeking some divine intervention again in this country, so that we can be safe and secure and prosperous again."

That was one sentence.

If by "roots," she means "the sheltered fantasy world I lived in as a child," and then by "it would be wise of us to start seeking some divine intervention again," she actually means "I'm a stupid bitch," then I can't say I disagree with her. God, I don't even want to do this. I wish she would just go away. Did her career really make it this far? Why? How? This is a woman who thinks America's problems should all be solved by divine intervention. For chrissake, read that sentence again. Instead of working to enact efficient economic polices, she would rather do a rain dance? Bloody brilliant. Doing nothing solves everything.

Sarah Palin was close to becoming the Vice President of the United States. She is going to run for president in 2012. Every time I become enthusiastic about all the progress humanity is making, I'm dragged back down into reality by the thought that there are people who want Sarah Palin to be in charge of the most powerful country on the planet. But in all likelihood, she's going to split the Republicans right down the middle, and Obama will win by a landslide. I seriously can't wait, the thought of the Republican Party being destroyed by their own creation makes my mouth water.
